Training Kick-Off in Kiel: Focus on European Championships
The starting gun has been fired: the German Aquapony National Team officially launched its preparation phase for the European Championships in Stockholm on May 1, 2025, in Kiel. Head Coach Thomas Hintz welcomed the squad at the Kiel Olympic Hall with clear words: 'We've laid the foundation. Now it's about turning it into performance.'
The first training block focuses on technical refinement and the rehearsal of new synchronisation elements. Transitions between water and riding sequences were analysed meticulously in the opening sessions – an area where the team conceded points at the last European Championships.
Team captain Marcel Christen was in top form from the outset. His precision on the compulsory exercises set the benchmark for the entire squad. 'Kiel is always a special place for me,' said Christen after the first session. 'The facility, the atmosphere – this is where I find my rhythm.'
Sarah Masurat also drew attention: the 19-year-old presented a new freestyle sequence she had worked on throughout the winter. Assistant Coach Sandra Hintz assessed the sequence as 'competition-ready' – a verdict that sparked a noticeable sense of momentum within the team.
Eric Kleemann is concentrating on his well-known strength in this preparation phase: precision. 'I want every movement to be locked in before we increase intensity,' he explained. Head Coach Hintz plans to gradually raise the training volume over the next two weeks.
The Kiel training block runs until May 21st. The team then travels together to Stockholm for final preparations directly in the competition venue. The European Championships begin on June 10th – and the national team is leaving nothing to chance: defending the title is the only goal.
